First graders at Johnson School read “Stellaluna” during their "All About Me" unit. The book depicts how individuals can be friends despite their differences, such as the fruit bat and birds. Toward the completion of the unit, Spencer Community Schools alumnus and naturalist, Sarah Jackson, visited the first graders to talk about bat facts. They enjoyed a game called "Echolocation" as they learned how microchiroptera bats search for insects. What a great way to wrap up a unit that teaches such an important life lesson.
